Volunteer Opportunity: Chaperone 5th graders at the Museum of Science

Volunteers are needed for an upcoming event with the Lynn Washington STEM Elementary School.  The GE Volunteers is funding admission and buses for a field trip to the Boston Museum of Science on October 19th.  We will take the three 5th grade classes at Washington STEM from the Lynn Public Schools.

We need GE volunteers to help chaperone the children while they are enjoying the exhibits.  There will be approximately 80 children split into 8 groups.  Each group will have a teacher from Lynn Public Schools and 1 to 2 GE chaperones.  We will be visiting at least 4 exhibits, as time allows, and we will end with a showing at the Lightning Theater.  The goal is to inspire the students by interacting with real-life employees that have pursued a career in STEM and can help share their personal experiences while having fun.

This is the second year doing this event.  We got a lot of great feedback last year from the kids and Lynn Public Schools.  The chaperones also had a great time.  This year, we need at least 12 volunteers, but, having more chaperones won’t hurt.

What: Chaperone on a Field Trip to the Museum of Science

When: Friday, October 19th, from 8am – 2pm

Where: We’ll meet at the Washing STEM Elementary School, 58 Blossom St., Lynn, MA 01902, at 8am.  We will take the bus in with the students, teachers, and other volunteer chaperones.
